Sport Fisher Sunshades
The cockpit is where everyone actually sits, and on most sport fishers it is the one place with no shade at all.
We build custom aft cockpit Sunshades to your measurements, sewn by hand in our Delray Beach, Florida shop and shipped anywhere in the world. If your boat already runs track under the bridge overhang, or you have outriggers and rod holders to fly from, we build the panel on its own.
The aft cockpit problem
A sport fisher is designed around fishing, not lounging. The bridge shades the helm. The mezzanine gets a little cover. The cockpit gets nothing, and that is where the fighting chair, the transom door and everyone standing around actually are.
At anchor or on a slow troll, that cockpit turns into the hottest square footage on the boat. An aft cockpit shade is the cheapest way to get those hours back.
Three ways they mount
- Track under the bridge overhang. The cleanest option and the most common on larger boats. We sew a keder rope into the leading edge and it feeds straight in, exactly like the factory canvas.
- Outriggers. The panel flies between them and tensions with lines to the covering boards or transom corners.
- Telescoping poles in the rod holders. No drilling, nothing permanent. Up in under a minute and stowed in a bag when the lines go in.
Already have track or poles? Then you only need the panel. We build shade-only from $845 and ship it to wherever you keep the boat, so you are not paying twice for hardware that is already on the transom.
Boats we build for
Cockpit dimensions vary enormously across builders, which is exactly why these cannot be bought off a shelf. We regularly build for convertibles and express boats from Viking, Hatteras, Bertram, Cabo, Ocean, Jarrett Bay, Rybovich, Albemarle, Contender and Regulator, along with plenty of older hulls whose builder is long gone.
We are not affiliated with any of those manufacturers. We just build canvas that fits their boats.
A real one
The Viking in our product photos is Insomnio, out of Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Her cockpit shade runs off the bridge overhang and covers the full cockpit back to the transom. Owner measured, we built, we shipped. That is the whole process.
What you send us
- Width across the front, where it attaches to the track, outriggers or poles.
- Width across the back, if the cockpit narrows toward the transom.
- Front to back, however far aft you want coverage.
- How it attaches, and a photo of the track or hardware.
- Boat make, model and year.
Every order gets a follow-up call, so none of it has to be perfect on the first pass.
Built for offshore, not for a patio
- Stamoid, and nothing else. Real marine fabric, 100% waterproof, 100% UVB protection, backed by a 5-year warranty. In practice it lasts a good deal longer, because a Sunshade is deployed for a few hours at a time rather than left standing in the sun year round.
- 100% PTFE lifetime thread. About $200 a spool and it does not rot in UV, which is why our seams outlast the panel.
- Double-reinforced perimeter, triple-reinforced corners. A cockpit shade takes wind load a patio awning never sees.
- Marine-grade stainless at every attachment point, and a drawstring bag so it stows dry and clean.
